Maverick rough idle and hesitation
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Ford Maverick is experiencing rough idling, hesitation, increased fuel consumption, and reduced engine power, particularly when cold. The suspected cause is a defective or dirty fuel injection nozzle. A similar issue was resolved by cleaning the fuel injectors, which were not spraying fuel properly. The problem was confirmed and fixed at a workshop, identifying dirty injection valves as the culprit.

Yes, hesitation is a good way to describe it, and it's definitely worse when it's cold. What was the issue with yours?

Turned out to be dirty fuel injectors. Like a clogged artery restricting blood flow, these injectors weren't spraying fuel properly. Given your symptoms and mileage, I'd bet that's your culprit too. Best to get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to the shop; you were spot on. Dirty injection valve. Repair cost 515€.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms in my Maverick. Is it almost like the engine is hesitating, like a runner stumbling at the starting line? Is it worse when the engine is cold?
