Maverick transmission control unit failure

Anyone else have issues with their Ford Maverick? My 2020 hybrid has 161803 km on it, and now the engine won't start. The check engine light is on, and the gearbox feels like it's slipping. I scanned the error memory and it throws a code related to the parking position. I suspect it is the auto transmission since it does not start. Any ideas?

This sounds awfully familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Audi A6. Same symptoms: wouldn't start, CEL illuminated, and weird shifting. The error code pointed towards the gear selector module. Did you happen to check the TCM?

TCM? No, I didn't check that. Where is that located and how do I get to it on the Maverick?

In the Audi, the TCM (Transmission Control Module) was integrated into the mechatronic unit inside the transmission. Given the symptoms and error code, it's highly probable you're dealing with a similar defect in the control unit. You mentioned the parking position. The shift lock solenoid might be defective. I would advise against DIYing this, though. This requires specialized diagnostic tools and knowledge. Bring it to a reputable shop.

Thanks for the input! Took it to the shop; you were spot on. The control unit inside the transmission was indeed defective. Ended up costing me around 1000€ for the repair, but at least it's fixed.
