Maxima oil pressure warning
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Nissan Maxima displayed an oil pressure warning light, potentially due to contaminated engine oil. The oil appeared dark, and the last oil change was 18 months ago, suggesting the maintenance interval was exceeded. This neglect can lead to oil sludge and pressure issues, risking engine damage. A workshop confirmed oil contamination, and an oil change with an engine flush was performed to address the issue.

My last oil change was about 18 months ago. The oil on the dipstick looks quite dark. Could exceeding the maintenance interval cause this? Is there a risk of lasting engine damage?

Yes, exceeding the maintenance interval can definitely cause oil sludge and pressure issues, especially if you do lots of short trips. Dark oil is a sign of degradation. Prolonged neglect can lead to engine damage. I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop ASAP.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed oil contamination due to exceeding the service interval. An oil change and engine flush cost me 165€. Hopefully, there's no lasting damage.

It definitely sounds like it could be oil-related. When was your last oil change? What does the oil look like on the dipstick? Is it dark, sludgy, or does it have a strange color?
