Mazda 2 Diesel Transmission Issues: Gear Shifting Irregularities, Strange Noises, and Gear Display Faults?

Hey everyone, I've got a situation with my '19 Mazda 2 diesel, clocking in at 287,903 KM. Recently, it's been acting up with the transmission shifting sporadically and making grinding noises during gear shifts. I'm also picking up on a constant whining noise - it's driving me nuts! I have a hunch it might be a problem with the gear selection display, but I'm no expert. After a less than stellar experience with my last mechanic, I'm a tad anxious about having it checked out again. Has anyone had similar problems with a Mazda (or any other car for that matter)? How did you deal with it, and how was your experience with your local mechanic? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Cheers!

Hey there, Had some similar issues with my '16 Mazda 3 just a couple of months back. Pesky noises and some funky shifts as well. Turned out, it was a faulty wiring harness messing up the signals between the ECU and the transmission. I initially thought it was a transmission problem too but my mechanic was top-notch and knew his way around Mazdas. He diagnosed the problem as being with the wiring harness and not the transmission itself. It's a common point of failure for these models but often overlooked. It was a bit of serious issue as it was flirting with disrupting some major command and control signals. Keep in mind, it might not be your exact problem, but it's worth having a look into it. It's easy to assume it's a costly transmission issue when it could be something even relatively simpler. Wish you the best of luck in getting it sorted! Cheers!

Hey! Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated! It's interesting you mention the wiring harness, I hadn't thought about that before, but totally makes sense now. Can you recall how much it set you back to get that sorted out? I'm expecting it to hit my wallet hard, but hopefully not too hard. And another thing, has anything else popped up since you got it fixed? I understand these things can be like a chain of falling dominoes sometimes. Cheers!

Hey! Glad I could chip in with some useful info! Yup, looking at the wiring harness did help pinpoint and sort out the mishap. It's true, car issues can sometimes feel like a never-ending cascade, one thing leading to another. But hey, we're all in this together, right? Coming to your questions, the repair set me back by 180.00 €. Bet your reaction right now is the same as mine when I heard that! But considering how it could have been so much worse, it was a fair shake, all things considered. After getting that sorted out, the gear selection display that had been bugging me got fixed too, so it was a win-win. Touch wood, haven't faced any other issues since then, so far so good! Just remember, each car's different and so can be the issues. Hoping you get your Mazda sorted out without much of a fuss. Stay strong! Cheers!

Hello again, That was quick and really helpful! Hearing it was 180.00 € definitely caught me off guard, but like you said, it could be much worse. I'm relieved it didn't lead to more serious problems for you. It's encouraging to hear that the gear selection display issue resolved itself too. I'm hoping it's gonna be the same for mine. Keeping my fingers crossed that no other problems spring up after this. Thanks again for the words of wisdom. Time to dial up the local mechanic and see if lady luck is on my side this time. Will keep you posted on how it pans out. Stay safe and take care! Cheers!
