Mazda 2 Issues: ABS/DSC Malfunctions and Power Steering Failure

Hey! I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2016 Mazda 2, gas engine, which has run around 140,264 km. Recently started noticing that ABS/DSC isn't functioning while the power steering's gone kaput, triggering vibrations in the steering wheel. I'm suspecting it might be a case of Electric Power Steering signal goofing up somewhere. Just want to check with you guys, anyone faced something similar, how did you resolve it and what are your experiences with the mechanics? Last time, didn't have a great time at the mechanic's so just trying to get a vibe before heading there. Much appreciated!

Hey! I can truly relate to your situation. I drive a 2013 Mazda 3, so not exactly the same, but had a slightly similar issue last year. I also had some trouble with the ABS system and my steering wheel had those darn hard vibrations just like you mentioned. Turned out, it had something to do with the cable connection/plug connection—it was rather sneaky somewhat defective, disrupting the Electric Power Steering signal. And yes, it was a pretty serious issue as it greatly affected the car's overall performance and safety. I only found out after I took it to my garage. My mechanically-inclined took a look, fiddled around with the connections and managed to identify the problem. So he then had to replace and reconnect the new cables, a bit complicated if you ask me. Same as you, I'm not the hugest fan of mechanic visits, but this is one of those issues where you don't want to wait around. Be sure to mention these symptoms to your mechanic 'cause it can easily be overlooked. And you definitely don't want to be driving around with a suboptimal ABS/DSC system and a shaky steering wheel, trust me. Hope this helps, and wishing ya a smooth fix!

Hey there, I totally get what you're going through. I had a similar problem with my Mazda, though it was a 3 not a 2. It turned out to be an issue with the wiring in the connection to my Electric Power Steering. Had to bite the bullet and take it to my mechanic, even though I try to avoid those trips just like you. They fixed it but it sure was a pain. Anyway, can you remember what sort of cost you were looking at for the repair? And have you noticed any other issues popping up since the fix? Hoping not, but you never know with these things. Wishing you good luck with your Mazda!

Hey there! Absolutely get your concerns about costs and any further issues - this car stuff can be a real headache. When I had to deal with this Electric Power Steering signal issue, turns out, it was the cable connection/plug connection that was acting up. Getting it sorted at the mechanic's set me back by around 155 Euro, which, to be honest, seemed alright considering theyaged to fix the issue and get my Mazda back up to speed. Haven't had any other problems crop up since seeing the mechanic - the repair did the trick and that darn steering signal error got resolved. So, the old girl's been running smoothly, no more sketchy ABS/DSC stuff or a vibrating steering wheel to deal with. Sure, no one likes shelling out for unexpected repairs, but in this case, it was money well spent. Hang in there, I hope this gives you a bit of clarity and your Mazda gets back on track soon!

Hey, thanks a ton, guys! Your experiences and inputs really do put things into perspective for me. Seems I might be dealing with the same cable connection issue. And thanks for the heads up about the costs, too. Now I know what to expect when I hit the garage. Glad to hear your Mazdas are purring fine afterwards - gives me hope for mine! This isn't the kind of surprise I prefer, but as you mentioned, it's better to tackle the issue head-on than to keep driving a car with a messed up ABS/DSC and a wobbly steering wheel. It's all about keeping safe on the road, after all. Appreciate your help and time, fellas. Off to the mechanic’s, wish me luck! Here's hoping for a quick and smooth fix.
