Megane Active Hood Fault

I've got a 2007 Renault Megane with a gasoline engine and a weird problem. The on-board computer keeps flashing "Active hood fault" and the airbag warning light is on. I scanned it and it's showing an error related to the active hood system. I even noticed the spring actuators triggered, which is not ideal. Mileage is at 87473 km. I'm guessing it's the acceleration sensor, but I'm not sure where to start. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds like a headache! Had something similar with my old Saab, though it was the seatbelt pretensioner throwing errors. The system is basically saying "something isn't right in the impact detection department." Did you check the wiring harness and connectors to the sensors? Could be a loose connection or corrosion fooling the system.

Yeah, I suspected a loose connection. But where exactly are these sensors located? Is it something I can easily access and check myself, or am I better off taking it to a workshop?

On the Saab, they were cleverly hidden near the front impact zones, basically where the bumper meets the chassis. I'd imagine the Megane's sensors are in a similar spot, designed to detect a pedestrian impact. Honestly, unless you're really comfortable poking around with airbags and safety systems, I'd suggest a workshop. Messing with those systems can get expensive, and potentially dangerous.

Thanks for the advice! I suspected it was more complicated than a simple fix. Booked it in with a local garage. They confirmed it's a defective acceleration sensor and quoted 315€ for the repair. Seems reasonable enough. Appreciate the help!
