Megane Airbag Warning Light

My 2011 Renault Megane diesel is showing an airbag warning light and a 'rollover sensor malfunction' error. The light won't go away. Could a faulty tilt sensor be the problem? The car has 237754 km. Has anyone seen this before?

That's not good. I'm no expert, but could it be a wiring issue? Have you checked the connections to the airbag sensor and the control unit? Maybe a loose connection or damaged wire? It might be worth a look before you assume the sensor is toast.

Thanks for the suggestion! Where would I find the connections to check? I'm not mechanically inclined, but I can manage the basics. Are they easy to get to, or will I need to dismantle half the car? I don't want to break anything.

I'm probably not the best person to give you exact instructions. Messing with the airbag system can be risky. With a potential rollover sensor issue and the airbag light on, I think your best bet is to take it to a workshop. It sounds like the control unit might be defective, which could get expensive. I've heard those repairs can run around 1000€.

I was hoping it would be something simple, but I don't want to take any chances with the airbags. I booked it in with a mechanic. Turns out you were spot on; they reckon the control unit for the rollover sensor is faulty and needs replacing. Thanks for the reality check and the advice!
