Megane Camshaft Sensor Issue

My 2007 Renault Megane diesel (45000 km) is struggling to start, engine power is down, and the garage found an error. They suspect the camshaft sensor or a bad cable/plug. I'm worried about crankshaft or timing issues, plus the check engine light is on. Could this cause rough idling and stalling?

I had a similar issue with my Megane. Reduced power and struggling to start sound familiar. Was the engine light on?

Yes, the engine light is on. Did yours store an error code? Any problems with rough idling? Trying to confirm if it's the camshaft sensor before I commit.

Yes, mine stored an error code pointing to a sensor. I also had intermittent rough idling. A defective camshaft sensor is plausible given your symptoms. Get a professional diagnosis to confirm before replacing anything. They can properly check the sensor and wiring.

The workshop confirmed it was the camshaft sensor. They replaced the sensor and fixed a faulty connector. It cost 95€, including labor. It’s running perfectly now!
