Mercedes A Klasse Overheating Air Flap Fault

My 2001 Mercedes A Klasse gasoline is acting up. The check engine light is on and it's overheating. A diagnostic scan shows an active air flap fault. Could it be the flap motor? I am worried about the car overheating. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Overheating and check engine light? Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen with my A Klasse, though I can't recall the exact error code. Is the air intake perhaps affected? I'm no expert, but I remember reading something about the flap motor being a common issue. How mechanically inclined are you? Have you checked the flap motor itself for any obvious signs of damage or blockage? Did you check for any obstructions in the air intake system?

So, you're saying you had the same issue? What did you end up doing to fix it? Any chance it was also the flap motor? I'm not super handy, but I can check for obvious damage. Is it easy to access?

Yeah, similar symptoms. I fiddled around with it for a bit, checked some connections, but honestly, I wasn't confident enough to do more than that. I ended up taking it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the electromechanism and replaced it. Best bet is to get it properly diagnosed, maybe a workshop can help.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate the confirmation. Looks like I'll bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. 590€ repair cost is insane, but better than a cooked engine!
