It happened suddenly No recent work or aftermarket stuff Is there anything I can check myself before shelling out for a new control unit

Sudden failure and no recent work hmm While a DIY fix is possible diagnosing MOST bus issues without specialized tools can be tricky You're essentially looking for a broken fiber optic cable or a malfunctioning module in the loop Since you don't have gradual degradation the chances of a loose connection are probably low Given the cost involved and the complexity of car diagnostics these days honestly I'd advise getting a professional diagnosis A proper scan with Mercedes-specific diagnostic equipment will pinpoint the faulty component Could save you money in the long run versus replacing parts blindly

Yeah that's what I figured Bit the bullet and took it to a specialist Turns out it WAS a faulty control unit on the MOST bus just like I suspected They replaced it cleared the codes and everything is working again Thanks for confirming my fears and the advice

A MOST bus fault Oh dear that sounds like chasing gremlins in your car electronics Think of the MOST bus as the nervous system of your car's infotainment – if one nerve is pinched the whole system can go haywire The symptoms you describe definitely point to a break in the optical loop Before you commit to that repair bill a few questions Has this happened suddenly or did it develop gradually Have you had any recent work done on the car's electrics or audio system Any aftermarket modifications installed
