Mercedes B Klasse Engine Issues and Crankshaft Sensor Problems

My 2018 Mercedes B Klasse with a gasoline engine is giving me fits The engine light is on, and it feels like I'm driving with half the horsepower It's sluggish, especially when accelerating, and the fuel consumption is up I'm getting a crankshaft to camshaft reference value error code Could a faulty crankshaft sensor really cause all these issues Is engine synchronization the problem Has anyone else dealt with this reference value nightmare

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Mercedes B Klasse with a gasoline engine was experiencing reduced power, increased fuel consumption, and an engine light due to a crankshaft to camshaft reference value error code. These issues were attributed to a faulty crankshaft sensor, which affected engine synchronization. Replacing the crankshaft sensor and timing belt resolved the problems, restoring normal engine performance and fuel efficiency.

Yo, I feel your pain I've got a Mercedes B Klasse too Had almost the exact same thing happen Engine light, felt like I was towing a boat anchor, and my MPG went down the drain That 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' thing rings a bell big time The ECU is probably not getting the right signals, and then your engine timing goes haywire Did you notice any misfire codes too When was the last time you replaced the timing belt

Misfire codes, that's a good point I haven't checked specifically for those, but it wouldn't surprise me As for the timing belt, I honestly have no clue when it was last replaced I'll have to dig through the service records But are you saying the crankshaft sensor was definitely the culprit in your case

Okay, so the misfire is likely there, which would indicate engine synchronization issues Crankshaft sensor was indeed the culprit All the symptoms you described match what I experienced The garage diagnosed it pretty quickly Honestly, given the error code and your symptoms, I'd bet good money that's your problem too Get it checked at a decent workshop They will tell you if the timing belt is worn too, and replace it

Thanks a bunch for the insight I really appreciate you sharing your experience I took it to the workshop and you were spot on Crankshaft sensor was kaput Got it replaced, along with the timing belt, and everything is running smoothly now The total cost was 340€ but it's worth it Engine light is off, power is back, and the fuel consumption is normal again Thanks again
