Mercedes B Klasse Hybrid Camshaft Sensor Problem

My 2023 Mercedes B Klasse Hybrid with 228941 km has starting issues, frequent stalling at idle, and the check engine light is on. Diagnostics suggest a defective camshaft sensor, possibly from a faulty encoder wheel. Could this affect ignition timing, and is there a link to the crankshaft sensor? I'm expecting a repair cost around 695€.

Those symptoms do suggest a camshaft sensor issue. The stalling and difficult starting fit. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor? A loose or corroded connection could seem like a sensor failure. Is it showing any specific fault codes related to camshaft position or ignition timing?

I've looked at the wiring and connections, but I don't have the tools for a full electrical test. I'm getting a P0340 error, which is a generic camshaft position sensor 'A' circuit malfunction. Could a bad crankshaft sensor cause similar issues, or is it probably just the camshaft sensor?

P0340 confirms the camshaft sensor. A crankshaft sensor problem can cause similar stalling, but the code points to the camshaft sensor. It's unlikely both failed at once. Given the code and symptoms, replacing the camshaft sensor is the best first move. A workshop should handle it, especially if you're unsure about the wiring.

I took it to a workshop. They confirmed a defective camshaft sensor due to a faulty encoder wheel, like we thought. The replacement was 695€. The car runs perfectly now. Thanks for the help.
