Mercedes C Klasse Coding Error

My 2002 Mercedes C Klasse with a gasoline engine is throwing a fault code at 104855 km. An error message pops up on the infotainment and speedometer. Engine diagnostics point to incorrect coding. Has anyone seen this before?

I had a similar issue on my old Skoda. I kept getting a check engine light, and the diagnostic scanner showed some weird coding error. Did you try to reset codes? It might be a quick fix.

Reset codes, huh? How do I go about doing that? Just disconnecting the battery or is something more involved required?

Disconnecting the battery didn't do anything for me. You really need a diagnostic scanner to clear the fault code properly. If that doesn't work, then it's workshop time I'm afraid. It seems the coding is off. The error message might come back otherwise.

I took it to a local workshop. It turns out you were spot on - a coding issue. They sorted it for 360€ and reset the codes. There are no more annoying error messages!
