Mercedes C Klasse Diesel Power Loss and Smoke

My 2010 Mercedes C Klasse diesel has reduced engine power and excessive smoke emission upon acceleration at 174470 km Is this a diesel particulate filter problem or a sensor fault affecting the exhaust system backpressure?

Sounds like you're having a rough time I had something similar happen with my C Klasse, though it was a while back and I don't remember all the details Reduced power and smoke? Yeah, that rings a bell Have you checked for any error codes? It could be a sensor issue messing with the DPF I remember someone mentioning backpressure problems causing similar symptoms Does yours go away after the engine warms up? Just trying to get a better picture

I have checked for error codes, and there were several related to the diesel particulate filter and exhaust system The reduced power and smoke are persistent, regardless of engine temperature Could you elaborate on the sensor issue you mentioned and what the resolution was in your case? Was it simply a sensor replacement, or did it require more extensive work on the exhaust system?

Right, error codes pointing to the DPF... that's not great In my case, it turned out to be a faulty backpressure sensor, but the garage also said the DPF was pretty clogged They tried a forced DPF cleaning first, but it didn't really solve the problem in the long run Ended up getting the sensor replaced, but honestly, with those error codes and the persistent symptoms you're describing, it might be worth biting the bullet and taking it to a trustworthy workshop They can run proper diagnostics and tell you if it's just a sensor fault or if the diesel filter itself is toast

It seems a trip to the workshop is indeed unavoidable As it turned out, the diagnosis confirmed a defective diesel particulate filter and a backpressure sensor issue The total repair cost amounted to approximately 1550€ Thank you for your advice and help
