Mercedes C Klasse Oil Pressure Warning Light

My 2000 Mercedes C Klasse with a gasoline engine has an oil pressure warning light and a speedometer warning. Mileage is 125491 km. I suspect oil contamination from an overdue maintenance. Could this be the cause, and should I worry about engine damage?

Exceeded maintenance can cause oil contamination and pressure issues. Check the oil filter. A clogged filter restricts flow. Also, check the oil level. Insufficient oil triggers the warning. What oil are you using?

Oil level is fine. I haven't checked the filter. I use the oil recommended in the manual. Could a simple oil change and filter fix this, or has the contamination caused internal damage?

An oil change and filter might help if caught early, but the warning light suggests deeper issues. Contamination could increase engine wear. Get a workshop inspection to assess the engine.

Thanks. The workshop confirmed some wear. They flushed the system, changed the oil and filter, and added an engine cleaner for 165€. The warning light is gone.
