Mercedes C Klasse Overheating Problem

My 2016 Mercedes C Klasse with a gasoline engine is having issues It has about 47643 km on it Recently, the engine's been overheating and taking ages to warm up properly A friend mentioned it could be the thermostat I've noticed the cooling fan seems to be running more than usual, and I'm worried about the temperature control Could it be something to do with the coolant system or the water pump I've seen some stuff online about the thermostat housing too Any ideas before I take it to a mechanic

Sounds like a thermostat issue I had similar overheating and slow warm-up problems with my C Klasse Check the map thermostat; that's often the culprit A faulty thermostat can mess with your engine temperature and cause the cooling fan to go crazy

Thanks for the quick reply When you say map thermostat, is that different from the regular thermostat And is it something I can check myself, or am I better off just taking it to a professional I'm not very experienced with car repairs

The map thermostat is part of the thermostat housing While you could try to check it, honestly, with those symptoms, I'd advise getting it checked by a workshop It's likely the thermostat is stuck open, causing the slow warm-up and eventual overheating Could save you some headaches

Thanks again for the advice I took it to a mechanic, and you were spot on – it was the map thermostat They replaced it, and everything seems to be running smoothly now Repair cost was about 350€, which is a bit annoying, but at least it's fixed Appreciate the help
