Mercedes Citan Diesel Engine Trouble

My 2012 Mercedes Citan diesel is acting up Check engine light is on, stalls at idle, and feels like reduced power I suspect the fuel pressure regulator because the error appeared after I changed the fuel filter Could this be related to the fuel system or the pressure sensor Any experience with engine misfire issues after a fuel filter change I'm trying to avoid a costly repair but am wondering about the fuel rail

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Mercedes Citan diesel is experiencing engine trouble, including a check engine light, stalling at idle, and reduced power. The issue is suspected to be related to the fuel pressure regulator, especially since the problem arose after a fuel filter change. Another owner with similar symptoms confirmed that replacing the faulty fuel pressure regulator resolved the issue, suggesting that checking the fuel system and pressure sensor might be necessary. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by replacing the fuel pressure regulator, restoring the vehicle's performance.

That sounds familiar I have a Mercedes Citan as well I had similar symptoms – check engine light, rough idling, and a noticeable power loss It turned out to be a faulty fuel pressure regulator Replacing it sorted everything out Although, my mechanic did mention checking the fuel system thoroughly to rule out other potential issues before replacing the fuel regulator He also checked the pressure sensor It might be worth investigating the error codes to see if they specifically point to the fuel regulator Could be a coincidence with the fuel filter change

When your regulator went bad, did you also have any engine misfire codes Was the replacement straightforward, or did your mechanic run into any snags with the fuel rail or anything else in the fuel system I'm trying to gauge how involved this repair might be and if it's something I could potentially tackle myself or if I should just take it to a shop

I can't say for sure if I had engine misfire codes specifically, but the error codes definitely indicated a fuel pressure issue I didn't do the repair myself From what my mechanic said, it wasn't overly complicated, but he did mention needing some specialized tools for the fuel rail connections Given the potential for fuel leaks and the importance of proper fuel pressure, he advised against attempting it without experience If you are unsure, perhaps it is better to go to the workshop

Sounds like it's best to leave this one to the professionals Just got it back from the shop – you were spot on Fuel pressure regulator was indeed the culprit 45€ and a bit of labor later, and she's running like new again Thanks for sharing your experience
