Mercedes Citan SOS malfunction

My 2022 Mercedes Citan diesel is showing an emergency call system malfunction. The error is stored, there's a message in the speedometer, and a warning light is on. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone else had this SOS signal problem?

A malfunctioning emergency call system is concerning, particularly given its importance for car safety. I have a Citan too and experienced something similar. The SOS signal kept failing. It was frustrating, like having a lifeline that's been cut. Did you try a system reset? Sometimes that clears the error, though it's more like putting a bandage on a deep wound if the underlying issue is a defective connection. Have you checked the error codes yourself using an OBD scanner to get more details?

A system reset? Where do I even begin with that? And no, I haven't checked the error codes myself. Where do I even find the OBD port in this thing?

A system reset can be tricky depending on the specific system. Some can be reset through the car's infotainment screen, diving into the settings menus – think of it like navigating a complex maze. Others might require disconnecting the car battery for a short period, but that can have unintended consequences like resetting other systems. Given the potential for electrical gremlins, and the importance of the emergency call function, it's probably best to take it to a workshop. I ended up doing that. They found a loose connection and fixed it quickly. Cost me around 95€, which is a small price for peace of mind when it comes to car safety.

Thanks for the advice. Workshop it is. Sounds like chasing down dodgy connections myself is a fool's errand. I'll advise on the outcome. The workshop confirmed it was a defective plug connection, just like you suspected. 95€ later, the error is gone and the system is working again.
