A wrong fuel error on a Mercedes CLA, particularly a hybrid, can be quite concerning, however, that does not always mean you put the incorrect fuel in the vehicle. I encountered a similar issue. Does the error memory provide any further details beyond wrong fuel A defective cable or plug connection to a relevant component can trigger such a fault. The system is highly sensitive. Do you recall any recent maintenance or work performed on the vehicle that might have disturbed any connections

Thanks for the quick reply The error code mentioned something about fuel composition being incorrect, but not the type of fuel. I have not had any work done recently, though. Where would I even begin to look for a defective cable or plug

Given the error specifics and lack of recent maintenance, I strongly advise against attempting diagnosis yourself unless you possess advanced diagnostic tools and expertise. Modern fuel systems are complex. It is plausible a sensor connection is faulty, but pinpointing which one without proper equipment will be challenging and can lead to more harm than good. The stalling issue at idle further reinforces the likelihood of a sensor malfunction impacting fuel delivery. Schedule an appointment with a certified Mercedes-Benz workshop. They can perform a thorough diagnostic assessment and pinpoint the precise cause efficiently.

You were spot on I took it to the workshop, and they found a loose connector on the fuel composition sensor. Apparently, it was causing the wrong fuel error and the stalling. They fixed the connection and cleared the code. Total cost was 95€ a lot less than I feared. Thanks again for your help
