Mercedes CLK Diesel Engine Issue Resolved

My 2004 Mercedes CLK diesel has the check engine light on and feels like it's lost power Engine response is sluggish and fuel consumption is up I suspect it might be related to the crankshaft to camshaft reference value Could a defective crank sensor be the culprit causing issues with engine synchronization and maybe some misfire

A similar issue plagued my old Audi A4 The symptoms you describe strongly suggest a crankshaft or cam sensor problem affecting engine synchronization The ECU relies on these sensors for precise timing A failing crank sensor is a plausible cause potentially disrupting the camshaft to crankshaft relationship It is crucial to verify the sensor's functionality Proceed with caution as incorrect readings can severely impact engine performance

Thanks for the insight When you had the issue with your Audi did you experience similar symptoms Also how did you pinpoint the crank sensor as the problem

Indeed my Audi exhibited nearly identical symptoms reduced engine power poor response and increased fuel consumption The diagnostic trouble codes pointed towards an issue with engine timing specifically correlating to the crank sensor signal A multimeter test confirmed the sensor was delivering inconsistent readings Given your vehicle's symptoms it would be prudent to have a workshop perform a diagnostic assessment Attempting repairs without proper tools or knowledge could exacerbate the problem

Appreciate the advice I took it to the workshop and it turned out to be a defective crank sensor just as suspected Replacing it resolved the engine synchronization issue and all the related symptoms The total repair cost came to around 340€ Thanks again for your help
