Mercedes CLK diesel gear shift indicator failure

My 2008 Mercedes CLK diesel is having gear shift issues I have been experiencing a complete failure of the gear shift indicator display, an inability to engage gears, gearbox slippage, erratic shifting, and grinding noises Diagnostic scans reveal an error and the gear selection display is inoperative I suspect a defective control unit Has anyone encountered something similar and can offer solutions The estimated repair cost is around 1000€ due to a sensor problem, possibly related to the gear selector or general automotive electronics

Dude, sounds like a total nightmare I had something similar happen with my CLK The electronic display went haywire Was it throwing any weird codes, or was it just blank

To clarify, were the symptoms you experienced identical to those I described, particularly the inability to engage gears and the accompanying grinding noises If so, could you elaborate on the specific error codes your system was reporting The more details, the better I can understand if we're dealing with the same sensor problem

Yep, pretty much the same deal Limp mode, grinding, the whole shebang Can't remember the exact code now, it was a while ago, but it definitely pointed to something in the gear selector Honestly, save yourself the headache and take it to a decent workshop They'll sort it quicker than you chasing ghosts in the automotive electronics

I appreciate the confirmation and the advice It seems a trip to the workshop is indeed the most prudent course of action Upon inspection, the issue was, as suspected, a faulty control unit affecting the gear selector After replacement and recalibration, the system is now functioning as expected Thank you again for sharing your experience; it helped me confirm my initial diagnosis
