Mercedes CLK electric steering column issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Mercedes CLK diesel experienced an issue with the electric steering column adjustment, which stopped working and showed an error in diagnostic scans. The problem was suspected to be a bad cable or plug. It was suggested to check the wiring harness connections to the steering column motor for loose or corroded terminals. After following this advice, the issue was resolved as a loose connection, and the repair cost was 95€.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you tell me exactly where the wiring harness connects to the steering column motor I want to check it carefully before doing anything else.

The connector on my car was high up on the steering column, hidden by other wires. Removing the lower dash panel helped me get to it. Given the error code, I'd suggest a professional diagnosis. 95€ seems fair for a wiring repair, but a bad motor would cost much more.

Thanks for the advice I took it to a shop. It was a loose connection, like you said. The final bill was exactly 95€ including the diagnosis. Thanks again

I had a similar electronic steering problem on my CLK. Check the wiring harness where it connects to the steering column motor. A loose connection or corroded terminal can cause this. Check these connections before thinking the motor is bad.
