Mercedes CLK Electrical Issues and ECU Reset

My 2004 Mercedes CLK with a gasoline engine is acting up at 103408 km. The error memory is full, electrical systems are failing, and the navigation is dead. The shop suggests a software reset for 240€. Has anyone experienced ECU problems and recalibration on these older models, or is this a software bug?

Summary of the thread

A 2004 Mercedes CLK is experiencing electrical issues, including a full error memory and non-functional navigation, potentially linked to a recent dead battery. The shop suggests a software reset, but a user recommends considering a full software installation, as it might address deeper software corruption. After re-flashing the ECU with the latest software, the vehicle is running smoothly, indicating the problem may have been a software bug.

That sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo. Random electrical problems, the works. It turned out to be a corrupted software. Have they tried a software installation or are they just going for a reset? Recalibration might work, but it depends on what's corrupted. Was there anything that might have caused this, like a low battery?

Good point about a recent event. The battery did die a few weeks ago, I jumped it, and it's been running since. Maybe that's related. They haven't mentioned a full software installation, just the reset. Is a software installation different from a reset, like formatting a hard drive versus reinstalling the operating system?

Exactly, like formatting versus reinstalling. The reset is a lighter touch, clears the codes, and tries to return things to a default state. A software installation overwrites the existing software with a fresh version. I'd suggest they consider a full software installation before a reset, especially after the dead battery. But honestly, with these glitches, it's best to let the shop run diagnostics. They have the tools to see what's happening.

That's helpful. I'll discuss the software installation option with them. The shop re-flashed the ECU with the latest software. Seems like a software bug. It's running smoothly now, so fingers crossed! Thanks for your help.
