Mercedes Diesel Injection Problem Solved

My 2006 Mercedes M Klasse diesel is playing up It's done 147843 km and the injection system seems to be the culprit Fuel consumption has gone through the roof Performance is awful and the engine keeps cutting out at idle Plus when I accelerate it's like a smoke screen behind me I've checked a few things myself and I suspect it might be a dodgy cable or plug connection somewhere Any ideas before I lose it completely

Sounds rough I had similar issues with my old Renault Megane (petrol though) Turned out to be a faulty sensor connection affecting the fuel injection Was the smoke black or more greyish

The smoke is definitely black What sensor was it on your Megane and where was it located Maybe it's a similar thing on my diesel engine

Mine was the crankshaft position sensor It's unlikely to be the exact same part on your Mercedes but the symptoms sound really similar I'd suggest getting it checked by someone who knows their stuff before you make things worse

Thanks for the advice You were spot on I took it to a workshop and it turns out the cable to one of the injectors was loose and corroded They cleaned it up and secured it properly Cost me 95€ and it's running like a dream now No more smoke and the power is back!
