Mercedes E Klasse diesel engine issue resolved

My 2000 Mercedes E Klasse diesel is having engine trouble. The check engine light is on, and the engine power is reduced. A diagnostics check shows an intake air temperature sensor error, and the engine runs rough. Could a bad intake air temperature sensor be the reason?

That sounds familiar. I had a similar experience with my old Opel. My issue was with the mass airflow sensor, I think, but the symptoms were close: check engine light and sluggish performance. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the intake air temperature sensor? Sometimes it's just a loose connection or damaged wire.

I appreciate the input. Is there a specific way to test the wiring connections, or am I just looking for anything obviously broken or disconnected? I want to be sure before replacing the sensor.

When mine went bad on the Opel, I checked the wires for breaks, but that didn't help. I took it to a workshop for diagnostics. They confirmed the sensor and replaced it. It might be worth getting a professional diagnosis before replacing parts based on the error code. Replacing it fixed mine, but it was a gamble.

I had the intake air temperature sensor replaced, and that seems to have resolved the issue. The repair cost 155€, so I'm happy with the outcome. Thanks again for the guidance.
