Mercedes GLA Diesel Exhaust Issue Resolved

My 2016 Mercedes GLA diesel is giving me trouble at only 30894 km The dashboard warning light is on, the engine is in limp mode with seriously reduced power, and it is puffing out smoke when I accelerate, with strong exhaust fumes My OBD reader says 'Diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low' Is this a dodgy exhaust back pressure sensor causing emission control and DPF regeneration issues, impacting fuel economy and driving experience I cannot even perform a proper DPF regeneration Any ideas before I dismantle the exhaust system

I had a similar issue with my 2018 Volvo XC60 diesel The reduced power and smoke during acceleration match my experience The diagnostic codes pointed to the exhaust system, specifically pressure readings Have you thought about a blocked DPF, along with a potentially defective pressure sensor It could explain the low pressure reading if exhaust flow is restricted before the sensor

A blocked DPF I thought the low pressure reading ruled that out, but I understand If the DPF is clogged upstream of the sensor, it could still report low pressure When you had this with your Volvo, did you try forcing DPF regeneration, or did you immediately suspect the sensor Did you notice any unusual exhaust noises before the problem

Forcing DPF regeneration was unsuccessful The system kept aborting, indicating an underlying issue Given the Volvo's age and mileage, I suspected a faulty sensor was providing incorrect data, preventing regeneration I took it to a workshop where they confirmed it Considering your Mercedes' symptoms and the error code, I suggest a professional diagnosis to rule out other causes before replacing parts

Thanks, that is good advice I brought it to a mechanic You were right It was the exhaust back pressure sensor I replaced it, and the car is fine again The total cost was 245€, including the sensor and labor No more limp mode or smoke, and the engine is breathing freely
