Mercedes GLA Heavy Steering and Vibration Issue

My 2023 Mercedes GLA hybrid has developed an unsettling issue at 169455 km. The steering has become significantly heavier, almost as if the power steering is failing intermittently, and the steering wheel vibrates noticeably. Could this be related to a defective steering angle sensor affecting the traction control? Is a sensor replacement required?

The symptoms you describe increased steering effort and vibrations are consistent with a potential issue related to the steering angle sensor. A faulty sensor can indeed impact the power steering system and traction control, as these systems rely on accurate steering angle data. It is difficult to diagnose remotely, but the coding of the steering angle sensor may be faulty. Has the vehicle undergone any recent wheel alignment procedures or suspension work? These could potentially disturb the sensor's calibration.

Thank you for your prompt response. The vehicle has not had any recent alignment or suspension work. Given this information, is it highly probable that sensor replacement will be necessary, or could recalibration suffice?

Given the absence of recent alignment or suspension work, and considering the mileage, a defective steering angle sensor is a plausible explanation. While recalibration might resolve the issue temporarily, a sensor replacement is often the definitive solution. A diagnostic scan should confirm the fault. I suggest consulting a qualified technician to perform a thorough inspection. They can verify the sensor's functionality and advise on the most appropriate course of action.

I appreciate your expertise. I took the GLA to a workshop, and the diagnostic scan confirmed a defective steering angle sensor. The sensor replacement, including wheel alignment, cost 195€. The steering is now functioning normally. Thank you again!
