Mercedes GLC belt tensioner issue

My 2016 Mercedes GLC with a Gasoline engine has a belt-handover malfunction The belt tensioner might be bad Has anyone dealt with this before I'm worried about the maintenance costs Any thoughts on the belt squeal timing belt or idler pulley

Hey I have a GLC too Sounds like the belt tensioner I had a similar issue with lots of noise Was the belt squealing really bad before it failed Did you notice any other weird noises like a chirping or grinding It could also be an idler pulley but the tensioner is more common I think I hope this helps

The belt squeal was there sometimes but it wasn't constant so I didn't think much of it It got worse before it stopped working completely though What kind of noise did you hear before yours failed completely Was it sudden or did it gradually get worse I'm not sure what to do

Mine was a gradual thing The belt squeal got louder and more frequent over a few weeks then one day bam Loud screeching and I knew it was done Honestly with it failing completely I'd get it looked at by a pro ASAP It could be the tensioner or something else related to the timing belt system Better safe than sorry

Thanks so much for the advice I took it to the shop and you were right it was the belt tensioner The final bill was 455€ like I feared but at least it's fixed now I appreciate your help
