Mercedes GLE Diesel EGR Valve Symptoms and Resolution

My 2018 Mercedes GLE diesel is showing some concerning symptoms. I've noticed reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, and there's smoke when I accelerate. It also runs rough, fuel consumption seems higher, and it jerks with a loud hissing noise when accelerating. The mileage is currently at 189242 km. Could this be a defective EGR valve?

Those symptoms do sound suspiciously like an EGR valve issue. Does it also have a rough idle? I had a similar problem with my old Vauxhall Astra, though the hissing sound wasn't present. Have you checked for any vacuum leaks? A faulty EGR valve can sometimes cause issues that might even affect the catalytic converter later.

Rough idle is present. Vacuum leaks is a good suggestion, I will check that. What was the resolution for your Vauxhall Astra?

For my Astra, it definitely was the EGR valve, causing recirculation problems. Considering you have similar symptoms, plus the rough idle, and have already checked for vacuum leaks, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis. They can confirm if the EGR valve is indeed the culprit.

Thank you for the advice. The workshop confirmed it was the EGR valve. The total repair cost was 355€. Appreciate the help.
