Mercedes GLE stiff steering issue

My 2021 Mercedes GLE diesel has developed stiff steering at 180255 km, along with steering wheel vibrations. It feels like the power steering is failing. Could a defective steering sensor cause this? I suspect faulty coding of the steering angle sensor. Could this also affect traction control? I plan to have a wheel alignment done, but I'm worried about sensor failure.

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Mercedes GLE diesel developed stiff steering and steering wheel vibrations at 180,255 km, suspected to be due to a defective steering angle sensor and faulty coding. This issue also triggered the ESP warning light, potentially affecting traction control. The problem was resolved by replacing and recalibrating the steering angle sensor, costing 195€.

Whoa, sounds rough! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my GLE. It felt like wrestling an alligator just to make a turn. Did any warning lights pop up on your dash?

Yes, the ESP warning light is illuminated. Did sensor replacement fix the issue for you, or was it something more involved? Did it affect other systems?

Yep, that's it! It was the steering sensor throwing everything off. Get it checked ASAP, before other systems get glitchy. I'd head straight to the workshop!

Thank you for the insight. The workshop confirmed the steering angle sensor was defective, and the coding was faulty. Sensor replacement and recalibration cost 195€. The issue is now resolved.
