Mercedes GLS Diesel Rough Cold Starts and PTC Heater
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mercedes GLS Diesel is experiencing rough running during cold starts, with increased fuel consumption and an error code. A defective PTC heater is suspected as a possible cause, potentially affecting the blower motor. Checking the PTC heater fuse is suggested as an initial step, as it might be an easier fix. Consulting a technician for a proper diagnosis is recommended to confirm the issue and avoid unnecessary costs.

Thanks for the quick reply Is the fuse location easy to get to or does it need dashboard disassembly Did you notice any blower motor sounds when your PTC heater was bad

The fuse location is in the owner's manual usually in the engine compartment or under the dash It should be easy to get to I did not hear any blower motor noises If the fuse is okay it points to a bad heating element Given the cost I would get a technician to diagnose it before replacing parts It could save time and money

I appreciate the guidance I will consult a technician for a diagnosis before repairs It is best to confirm the cause especially with the potential cost The repair will be around 350€ I will post the outcome here

I had similar symptoms on my GLS Reduced heating and rough cold starts were linked to the PTC heater Your engine is trying to warm up but one helper is not pulling its weight Did you check the fuse for the PTC heater It might be an easier fix but a blown fuse can mean a bigger problem
