Mercedes GLS Sunroof Initialization Error After Coding
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Mercedes GLS experienced a 'sunroof not initialized' error, with the sunblind stuck and the convertible top unresponsive, suspected to be caused by recent coding changes. The issue likely stemmed from adjustments to the central electronics module, affecting other systems. A visit to a shop was recommended, where a full system reset and recalibration resolved the problem, restoring the sunroof's functionality.

The coding adjustments did involve the central electronics module. It was primarily to tweak lighting parameters, but maybe it affected other systems. Was your Audi's sunroof issue exactly the same with the stuck sunblind and unresponsive convertible top?

It sounds like we had a similar experience. My Audi's symptoms weren't exactly the same. My sunblind was working, but the sunroof would only open partially then stop. However, the root cause sounds similar. If your Mercedes' symptoms are identical to mine, I would recommend visiting a trusted shop to have the vehicle sunroof properly recalibrated using their diagnostic tools. It may be more complex than a simple reset.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I took your advice and visited my local shop. You were spot on! It turned out the coding had corrupted some parameters. They performed a full system reset and recalibrated the sunroof. The final repair cost was 75€. Everything is now working perfectly! I really appreciate the helpful insight.

I'm sorry to hear about your sunroof problems! I had a similar issue with my 2016 Audi A3. The panoramic sunroof went haywire after a software change. Did the coding you did involve the central electronics or convenience control module?
