Mercedes M Klasse Electronic Parking Brake Problem

Has anyone encountered electronic parking brake issues on a 2011 Mercedes M Klasse hybrid with 115730 km? The parking brake is not working, the speedometer shows a warning, and the error memory has a fault. Brake diagnostics suggest the electric motor in the brake caliper may be defective. Any insights on this brake fault would be appreciated. I am estimating a repair cost of 505€.

That sounds familiar! I also have a Mercedes M Klasse. I had a similar electronic parking brake issue a while back. The warning light was very annoying! It turned out to be a faulty brake sensor. Have you checked the brake sensor connections? Sometimes a system glitch can cause problems. It is a vehicle safety issue. If the sensor is not the problem, I would definitely look at the motor like your diagnostics suggested. It is never a cheap fix.

Thank you for your quick reply. Can you elaborate on how you diagnosed the faulty brake sensor? Did you use any specific tools, or were there other symptoms besides the warning light?

To be honest, I am no expert, but when the parking brake started acting up, I remembered a friend mentioning a similar problem on his car. He suggested checking the brake sensor first because it is a cheaper fix than replacing the whole motor. I took it to a workshop, where they ran brake diagnostics and confirmed the sensor was the issue. I would suggest taking yours to a reputable workshop to get it properly diagnosed. They will be able to pinpoint the problem quickly and accurately. It is better to be safe than sorry with brakes!
