You mentioned the camshaft position sensor. What specific symptoms did you experience? Any engine misfire occurrences or unusual behavior beyond the check engine light and rough running? Do you recall any specific error codes? Did you resolve it yourself or did you use a workshop?

Besides the check engine light, the main thing was a noticeable drop in power, especially when accelerating. It felt like the engine was hesitating. I didn't experience any engine misfire. I scanned it and got a code specifically pointing to the camshaft position sensor. Given my limited mechanical skills, I decided to take it to a trusted workshop. They confirmed the diagnosis and replaced the sensor, which completely resolved the issue. Given your symptoms are worse than mine, I would strongly suggest you do the same.

I appreciate you sharing your experience! Your insights have been particularly helpful. I've opted to entrust the repair to a reputable workshop. The diagnosis confirmed the defective camshaft sensor and the encoder wheel on the camshafts was damaged. They replaced the sensor and the issues have been resolved. The cost was within the expected range.

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Insignia diesel. The symptoms were a bit different, but the check engine light was on, and it was running rough. It turned out to be a faulty camshaft position sensor, throwing off the engine control unit and messing with the ignition timing. Mine never stalled, though. I would have thought if the crankshaft sensor failed the car wouldn't start at all.
