Mercedes ML Airbag Warning Light Issue

My 2007 Mercedes ML with a diesel engine is showing an airbag warning light in the speedometer. I've read about potential airbag deployment issues and even an airbag recall on some models, but haven't found anything specific to my vehicle at 222421 km. Could a defective cable or plug connection of the component really be the only cause? I'm trying to understand if I should be bracing for a much larger bill than the estimated 95€ for an airbag repair.

I had a similar issue with my ML. The SRS light illuminated intermittently. Have you scanned the system for fault codes? A faulty crash sensor can also trigger the airbag warning. Intermittent connectivity problems are common.

I haven't scanned for codes myself. I was relying on a preliminary diagnosis suggesting it's just a loose connection. Is the crash sensor something that typically fails outright, or could that also be an intermittent problem? Is this related to automotive safety issues?

The crash sensor can fail intermittently or completely. Intermittent faults can be harder to pinpoint. Given your symptoms, and considering automotive safety, it is advisable to have a diagnostic scan performed by a qualified technician to rule out other potential causes. The cost of airbag repair depends on the root cause.

Thanks for the input. I took it to a workshop, and indeed it was a faulty connector. The repair cost was exactly as quoted. The airbag system is now functioning correctly.
