Mercedes ML Diesel AdBlue Issue Resolved
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Mercedes ML diesel displayed an AdBlue empty error despite being refilled, preventing the engine from starting. The issue was suspected to be a faulty AdBlue pump, which was confirmed by a workshop diagnosis. After replacing the defective pump, the error message was resolved, and the engine started successfully.

A blocked injector as a cause? I hadn't thought of that. Can I diagnose this without special tools, considering the DEF fluid system's complexity?

I wouldn't want to suggest something that could cause more issues. Since it's stopping the engine from starting, and the message remains after refilling, it seems like something more involved. A workshop diagnostic check is probably best. They can check the sensor and the AdBlue injection system, and see if it's related to the emission standards system or injection system. Good luck.

Following the workshop's diagnosis, it was a defective AdBlue pump. The repair cost 250€, and the error message is gone. The engine starts now. Thanks for the help.

That's not ideal. Is the tank actually full? The level sensor might be faulty. Has the injection system been checked for blockages? Could a blocked injector cause similar problems, even if the tank is full?
