Mercedes ML Diesel Heavy Steering and Vibration Issue

My Mercedes ML diesel from is acting up The steering has become really heavy, almost like the power steering is gone completely And the steering wheel vibrates like crazy, especially at lower speeds Has anyone experienced this Could it be alignment problems

Sounds like a steering angle sensor issue I had something similar with my ML The heavy steering and vibrations are classic symptoms It's often linked to the electronic stability program because the system relies on that sensor to know where the wheels are pointing If the sensor is sending incorrect data, it messes everything up The wheel alignment can appear off, but it's actually the sensor causing the confusion If the coding of the sensor is faulty, the whole system is out of whack Did you recently have any work done on your car that involved the steering or suspension

So, steering angle sensor How much of a pain is that to fix Is it just a sensor replacement, or is there more to it And does it definitely cause alignment problems I'm trying to figure out if I can tackle this myself or if I need to bite the bullet and take it to a shop

Sensor replacement is the core of the job, but it's not just plug-and-play The new sensor needs to be properly calibrated and coded to your vehicle's electronic stability system If it's not coded correctly, you'll continue to have problems, or even new ones While a bad sensor can mimic alignment issues because the car's computer is getting false information about wheel position, the root cause isn't a mechanical misalignment Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop with experience in Mercedes automotive sensors and coding They'll be able to diagnose it properly and ensure the sensor is correctly installed and calibrated

I took it in, and you were spot on: steering angle sensor They replaced it and recoded everything Cost me about 195€, but now the steering is smooth as butter No more shaking I appreciate the help
