Mercedes ML Diesel Low Oil Pressure and Engine Knocking
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mercedes ML diesel is experiencing low oil pressure and engine knocking despite having the correct oil level and a recent oil change. The problem could be due to oil pump failure or worn engine bearings. The suggested solution is to avoid driving the vehicle and have it inspected at a workshop. The issue was confirmed to be oil pump failure, which was resolved by replacing the pump.

The oil was the correct spec. The noise is a loud knocking, like something is loose inside the engine. Did yours make a similar sound?

Knocking is what I heard. It was the oil pump not providing enough pressure. I didn't drive it much after the light came on, and I suggest you don't either. Get it to a workshop to confirm, but it sounds like oil pump failure.

I took it to a workshop, and you were right. It was the oil pump. I got it replaced, with new oil and filter. Total cost was 755€. Hopefully, that's it!

That sounds familiar. I had a similar experience with my ML. The low oil pressure light is never good. Was the new oil the correct spec? I'd be worried about oil pump failure or worn engine bearings. What kind of mechanical noises are you hearing?
