Mercedes ML diesel multifunction steering wheel issue
Summary of the thread
The multifunction steering wheel on a 2003 Mercedes ML diesel was not functioning, and the error memory indicated a fault. The issue was suspected to be related to the steering column control module or electrical problems, possibly involving a faulty slip ring rotary coupling. The problem was ultimately traced to a broken wire inside the steering wheel, which was repaired by resoldering the connection, resolving the issue effectively.

The 95€ quote is supposed to cover everything But does that require replacing the entire steering column I thought the control module was separate

95€ all in sounds cheap The rotary coupling is part of the steering column assembly but it's sometimes available separately The control module is usually separate but if the slip ring is faulty it can prevent the module from receiving the correct signals Given the price it's worth letting them do it but be prepared for them to say it needs more work

Had a similar issue on a BMW 3 series Steering controls went haywire It was a faulty slip ring rotary coupling within the steering column This maintains electrical contact while the wheel rotates Is the 95€ quote just for diagnostics or does that include parts and labor
