Mercedes ML Diesel Water Sensor Problem

My 2001 Mercedes ML diesel has a check engine light, rough engine operation, and a water sensor malfunction error code. I suspect an electrical fault in the sensor cable or plug. Has anyone seen this before, and do you have advice on sensor testing or fixes? I think the repair will be around 95€.

Water sensor issue on an ML? I had something similar. Check engine light, rough running, and auto electronics acting up. Did you check the connections well? Plugs get corroded or loose sometimes.

When you had this, could you find the exact electrical fault location or root cause through sensor testing? Did you also get a water sensor error code?

I didn't do much sensor testing, it was beyond me. The error code was similar. I took it to a workshop and they fixed the electrical fault. A proper diagnosis is probably best.
