Mercedes ML Hybrid Generator Fault Symptoms and Diagnosis

My 2010 Mercedes ML hybrid is showing some concerning symptoms. I've noticed reduced engine power and a warning light has appeared in the speedometer. The car won't start easily anymore. I've also observed weak and flickering lights, and the error memory indicates a fault with the generator. Mileage is at 264565 km. I suspect the generator is defective. Has anyone experienced this, and does this sound like a straightforward alternator replacement issue? I am looking at a 960€ repair bill.

Sounds familiar. Check the serpentine belt first, but it does point towards the charging system. I had a similar voltage drop issue on my ML, turned out to be the alternator.

Thanks for the quick response. When you say voltage drop, was it consistent, or intermittent? Also, did you notice any issues with the car won't start? Was it difficult to diagnose?

It was intermittent at first, then became consistent. Car would start poorly after that. Diagnosis wasn't too bad, but I'd suggest getting it properly checked at a workshop. Could save you some headaches.

Thanks. I appreciate the insight. Dropped it off at the workshop, and they confirmed the generator is faulty, so I'm going ahead with the alternator replacement.
