Mercedes ML power window problem
Summary of the thread
After replacing the battery in a Mercedes ML Diesel, the power windows stopped functioning correctly. This issue may be due to the car's electronics needing to relearn the window limits. A suggested solution is to hold the window switch in both the up and down positions until the window reaches its limit, then continue holding for a few seconds. If this manual reset doesn't work, professional diagnostic tools may be required to reset the window regulator, as confirmed by a local shop.

Thanks for the tip When you say 'holding the switch', do you mean holding it continuously until the window reaches the end of its travel, or just for a short burst? And should I do this on all the car window switches individually?

Yeah, hold it continuously until the window reaches the top or bottom and keep holding it for a few seconds after that. That's what I did, and it seemed to work. And yes, you'll probably need to do it for each window individually. If that doesn't do the trick, it might be a deeper issue and a trip to the workshop may be required. It's a pain, but sometimes these car electronics get a bit sensitive.

Appreciate the advice. The reset procedure didn't work, so I took it to a local shop. They confirmed the window regulator initialization was the issue and reset it using their diagnostic tools. Cost me 290€, but at least the windows are working again. Thanks again for your help.

Sounds familiar I've got a Mercedes ML too, though I'm not sure of the exact year. I had something similar happen after disconnecting my battery for some other work. It's like the car electronics forgot how to operate the windows. Did you try holding the window switch in both the up and down positions for a few seconds after turning the ignition on? Sometimes that helps the window regulator relearn its limits.
