Mercedes ML Transfer Case Issues

I have a 2002 Mercedes ML with a gasoline engine, about 190290 km on it Lately, the gearbox has been slipping, and the shifts are rough A mechanic thinks it's mechanical wear inside the transfer case, causing transfer case oil issues He mentioned defective gears Has anyone else run into this kind of transfer fluid problem Is oil leakage in the transfer case something to worry about The repair quote is 330€ Any advice

I have a similar Mercedes ML, though I'm not sure of the exact year I had similar shifting issues a while back Turns out, the transfer case oil wear was the culprit Have you checked the oil level and condition Low or dirty oil can definitely cause those symptoms

Thanks for the quick reply How did you know it was the transfer case specifically And how bad was the shifting when you experienced this Was it like the car was struggling to find the right gear, or more like a jerky, sudden change

Well, the symptoms were almost identical to yours As for knowing, I took it to a shop, and they diagnosed it I would suggest you do the same 330€ sounds like a reasonable price, to be fair
