Mercedes R Klasse ABS Sensor Problem

My 2007 Mercedes R Klasse with a gasoline engine has an illuminated ABS lamp. A scan shows a fault with the lateral acceleration sensor, impacting stability and steering. I think it's the control unit. Repairs are about 1000€. Has anyone dealt with yaw rate sensor issues?

I had a similar problem with my old Opel. Same ABS light and system failure. The scan pointed to a faulty sensor, but it was the steering angle sensor, not the lateral acceleration sensor. Check the wiring and connections to the sensor before assuming it's the control unit.

Thanks for the input. When you mention wiring, are you referring to the harness to the sensor or the broader electrical system tied to the ABS control module? Which connections should I check?

In my case, it was the harness leading to the sensor. The connector was corroded. I cleaned it and applied dielectric grease, which fixed it. Since you're considering replacing the control unit, I'd suggest getting a professional diagnostic before spending that much.

I appreciate the suggestion. Getting professional diagnostics before replacing the control unit seems wise. The shop confirmed the faulty lateral acceleration sensor and quoted the same repair cost. Thanks for the help.
