Mercedes R Klasse Diesel Auxiliary Heater Problem

My 2007 Mercedes R Klasse diesel, with 66699 km, has developed an issue The auxiliary heater refuses to kick in. I'm getting an error stored in the memory, and my scanner is pointing towards a defective glow plug. Has anyone battled this before? Is this likely to affect my climate control, or blower motor? I'm trying to keep my heating system going and not mess with the temperature sensor. Any advice before I deep dive?

Sounds like a common issue. If the glow plug is shot, the parking heater won't activate as a safety measure. Have you checked the relevant fuses? A blown fuse could mimic a bad glow plug. Also, what's the exact error code? That might give a clearer picture.

I did check the fuses, all seem fine. The error code is B1439. Does that ring any bells? I'm not sure where to start if it's not the glow plug.

B1439 definitely points to the auxiliary heater or its components. Considering the symptoms and the error code, a faulty glow plug is still the prime suspect. It might be worth checking the wiring harness to the heater too, but honestly, with that code, I'd be leaning towards confirming the glow plug before chasing other gremlins. If you lack the gear, a workshop might be faster.

Appreciate the insight! Ended up biting the bullet and took it to a workshop. You nailed it – faulty glow plug. 440€ later, the auxiliary heater is purring like a kitten again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
