Mercedes S-Class 2019: Engine problems and repair experiences

Hey everyone, I'm a bit worried about my 2019 Mercedes S Class diesel with 150,697 km on the clock. The thing has been showing strange symptoms recently, the engine light is on, the engine has lost power and sometimes the car won't start. I suspect that it might have something to do with pressure fluctuations in one cylinder. Have any of you ever had similar problems and how did the repair go? After my last experience at the mechanic, I've become a bit more cautious. I would really appreciate your experience and advice!

Hi, I totally understand your concerns. I had a similar problem with my 2016 Mercedes E Class. I also had the engine light on and the car had difficulty starting, just like you. Diagnosis at the garage determined that there were actually pressure fluctuations in one cylinder caused by subsequent errors from other fault memory entries. The repair was pretty thorough if I'm honest. They basically had to clean the affected cylinder and replace some other parts that were affected by the pressure fluctuations. They also had to reprogram the ECU to prevent further subsequent faults. It can be quite scary to have problems like this, especially when you consider how expensive and complicated the repair can be. It's important that you don't underestimate the situation and visit a workshop quickly to avoid further damage. This is the only way to be pretty sure that the problem lies with the pressure fluctuations and that it is not something else that could have even more serious consequences. So I'd advise you to go to the workshop and have your box checked before it gets worse. Good luck with that!

Hey, thank you for the helpful reply! Your experiences sound pretty similar to what I'm going through right now. Can you remember how much the repair cost you in total? And have you had any similar issues or anything else since then? Your feedback would be mega valuable to me, thanks in advance!

Hey, sure, can give you more info on that. After I took the car to the mechanic, they were able to get the problem with the pressure fluctuation on one cylinder under control. Nothing similar has occurred since then, the car is running as normal again. As for the costs: Fortunately, the repair of the subsequent faults caused by this pressure fluctuation was free of charge. So I really didn't have to pay a cent and I didn't have to pay anything. It's definitely worth having the car checked properly first before worrying about the costs. Keep at it, hopefully things will go as smoothly for you!

Thank you very much for the detailed information, that reassures me quite a bit! I will follow your advice and take my car to a garage as soon as possible. Great to hear that everything went well for you and that there were no further problems. I guess it just depends on finding the right mechanic and catching the problem early to minimize potential damage. Really great that you didn't have to pay anything! Hopefully I'll have the same luck. Thanks again, that really helps!
