Mercedes S Klasse HVAC Problem

My 2015 Mercedes S Klasse with a gasoline engine has an issue with the vehicle HVAC. The air conditioning no longer cools, and the system doesn't even switch on. A warning light has appeared, and the error memory has a stored fault. Could this be a refrigerant leak, or something more sinister with the auto refrigerant system? I'm wondering if it might be related to the refrigerant compressor. Any advice would be appreciated

I had a similar issue with my S Klasse. Have you checked the air conditioning control unit? Problems there can manifest as compressor failure. Is the compressor actually faulty, or is it simply not being told to engage?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the air conditioning control unit specifically. How would I go about testing that? Is it something I can do myself, or does it require special equipment? Also, how can I tell if the refrigerant compressor is truly faulty and not just being prevented from engaging? It seems like auto AC repair could get expensive quickly

Testing the control unit often requires diagnostic tools. The compressor may seem faulty, but a defective control unit could prevent its operation. Given your symptoms, it may be wise to consult a workshop to avoid unnecessary auto refrigerant related expenses

Appreciate the advice. I'll take it to a workshop to get the air conditioning control unit checked. Turns out it was indeed the control unit, and the repair cost me 980€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction
