Mercedes SL Airbag Warning Rollover Sensor Issue

My 2010 Mercedes SL, gasoline engine, has the airbag warning lamp illuminated. Error memory indicates a rollover sensor malfunction. I suspect a defective control unit. The estimate is 1000€. Any thoughts on this safety system issue?

I had a similar vehicle safety problem with my older BMW. The tilt sensor threw codes and lit up the dash. Have you checked the wiring harness and connector to the sensor? Sometimes corrosion or a loose connection can cause false readings before condemning the sensor itself.

The connector appears clean. Is the BMW's sensor similar in terms of potential failure modes? What specific tests did you perform?

Yes, BMW's setup is similar. In my case, the diagnostic pointed directly at the sensor, and the symptoms were identical to yours. I even tried clearing the codes, but they returned immediately. My local workshop also suggested the control unit was the issue, which, for me, was the right call. A replacement was required.

Confirmed. Replacing the faulty control unit resolved the issue. Thanks for confirming the likely cause. I appreciate the input.
