Mercedes SL Check Engine Light and Sluggish Performance
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Mercedes SL was experiencing a check engine light and sluggish performance, suspected to be caused by a faulty manifold pressure sensor leading to a vacuum leak. The initial mechanic used a smoke machine to check for leaks and suggested replacing the MAP sensor. After seeking a second opinion, it was confirmed that the MAP sensor was indeed the issue, and replacing it resolved the problem, with the repair costing approximately 235.0€.

I didn't hear any hissing noises I am not sure if the mechanic did any diagnostic test on the sensor He used a smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks and mentioned poor engine response Is there a way to verify a pressure sensor is faulty without specialized tools

Without proper tools, it's tricky If he used a smoke machine, that's a good sign Maybe get another shop to take a look I took my Volvo to a mechanic I trusted, and he confirmed the same issue Probably best to go to the workshop

I got a second opinion from another mechanic The first guy was right, it was the MAP sensor causing a vacuum leak They replaced the sensor, and the car's running like new again The repair cost was around 235.0€

That does sound familiar I had a similar problem with my old Volvo Was the mechanic sure it was the MAP sensor Did he test the sensor itself Error codes can be misleading Vacuum leak makes sense Can you hear hissing sounds from the engine
