Mercedes SL engine issues diagnosis and resolution

I had similar issues with my Mercedes C-Class. Higher fuel economy, rough idling... it all pointed to the mass air flow sensor. Have you checked your air filter recently? A dirty air filter can contribute to MAF sensor problems, restricting air intake.

Thanks for the response. I'll check the air intake system and filter. If the air filter is clean, is replacing the MAF sensor the next step? Also, did you see smoke during acceleration with your C-Class?

My air filter was surprisingly clean, so I thought the MAF sensor was the problem. Yes, I noticed smoke sometimes when accelerating. I'd suggest a qualified workshop for a precise diagnosis.
